The Benefits of Sports Massage

• To increase circulation and micro-circulation to both bring in nutrients to the tissues for growth and repair to take place more speedily. Also speed the removal of metabolic waste products.
These two things alone can help reduce the recovery time from training sessions to either allow for increased volume and/or quality of training sessions.

• To use palpation skills to identify areas of increased tension/hardness within a muscle or tendon and help to reduce this thus reducing the chances of getting an over-use injury occurring.

• To generally try to increase the flexibility of a muscle or muscle group and perhaps the mobility of a joint as a result to allow increased range of movement to take place and/or reduce the amount of energy needed by the body to take it through its range…. improving efficiency and delaying fatigue.

• To create a psychological feeling of being ready and prepared for a training session or event.

• To improve the general posture and function of an area, particularly useful for work-related tension, such as low back pain and/or neck/shoulder tension caused by computer work.
