The Benefits of Sports Massage

  • Increases circulation and micro-circulation to bring in nutrients to the tissues for growth and speedy repair. Also speeds the removal of metabolic waste products. These two things alone can help reduce the recovery time from training sessions to allow for increased volume and/or quality of training sessions.
  • Palpation skills identify areas of increased tension/hardness within a muscle or tendon, reducing the chances of an over-use injury.
  • Increases the flexibility of muscles and the mobility of joints to allow increased range of movement and/or reduce the amount of energy needed by the body to take it through its range, improving efficiency and delaying fatigue.
  • Creates a psychological feeling of being ready and prepared for a training session or event.
  • Improves general posture and the function of a specific body area. This is particularly useful for work-related tension such as low back pain and/or neck/shoulder tension caused by computer work.
